Justin Cornwell Scores “Training Day” Lead

Justin Cornwell (“Chi-Raq,” “Empire”) has scored the co-lead role opposite Bill Paxton in the drama pilot “Training Day” for CBS.

Danny Cannon helms and Will Beall pens the present-day reimagining of Antoine Fuqua’s acclaimed 2001 feature. Set fifteen years later, the show centers on a bright, idealistic young African-American police officer named Kyle Craig (Cornwell) appointed to an elite squad of the LAPD where he is partnered with seasoned, morally ambiguous detective Frank Rourke (Paxton).

Kyle is fearless in the face of terrible odds and driven to avenge the murder of his cop father. Re-assigned to the Special Investigation Section, his secret job is to take down rogue cop Rourke. Drew Van Acker, Katrina Law, Lex Scott Davis and Julie Benz co-star.

Barry Schindel, Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, Fuqua and Beall will executive produce.
