Jurassic World Smashes “Furious 7” Records

Colin Trevorrow’s “Jurassic World” hasn’t just broken theatrical box-office records around the world, the dinosaur blockbuster has also done the same in the home entertainment market.

In its first week of release, the fourth installment in the series has generated $82.6 million across both physical and digital formats – selling nearly three million units on Blu-ray and DVD.

“Furious 7” had established the high-water mark for the year, but ‘Jurassic’ has outpaced it by 25% and is on track to be the best-selling Blu-ray and DVD title of 2015, Universal’s most popular release of all time, and the biggest live-action Blu-ray title in history.

The figures are especially impressive considering the disc sales business is in notable decline as audiences shift to digital sales and rentals, and subscription streaming services.
