Jurassic Park Joins The Billion Club

It took twenty years but it finally did it – Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park” has earned a membership in the billion dollar movies club. The original film took in around $920 million in unadjusted worldwide grosses back in 1993.

The 3D global re-release has now added around $90 million to that total since it began rolling out in April, taking it to just over $1 billion. The re-release also took in a whopping $28.8 million in its opening weekend in China this past weekend.

Other films in the global billion dollar box-office club include “Avatar,” “Titanic,” “Marvel’s The Avengers,” “Iron Man 3,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2,” “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,” “Skyfall,” “The Dark Knight Rises,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” “Toy Story 3,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” “Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace,” “Alice in Wonderland 3D,” “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” and “The Dark Knight”.
