The upcoming “Jumanji,” both a new adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg’s picture book and a film heavily inspired by the Robin Williams-led 1995 film adaptation, has scored a new name.
Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Nick Jonas lead the cast of the new take which is now going by the name: “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”.
New footage screened at CinemaCon this week confirmed that instead of a board game that alters reality, in this take “Jumanji” is a classic video game from the 1990s that a group of students in detention discover.
Upon beginning the game however, the teenagers are sucked into its world and forced to play the game as adult avatars (Hart, Johnson, Gillan, and Black) in a wild fantasy jungle. That’s a twist on the original in which elements of a wild fantasy jungle manifested themselves in everyday suburbia.
“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” is scheduled to open December 22nd.
