Comedy sequel “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and the sole new title of the first weekend of the year, “Insidious: The Last Key,” both handily won the first box office weekend of 2018.
The new ‘Jumanji’ led the charge with $36 million which brings its domestic total to $244 million, whilst the fourth “Insidious” film took in $29.3 million. “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” came in third with $23.6 million and currently sits on a domestic total of $572.5 million after just over three weeks of release.
The third weekend of “The Greatest Showman” dropped only slightly, coming in fourth with $13.6 million and racking up $77 million so far. The third “Pitch Perfect” was fifth with $10.2 million and a two week total at $86 million. Both films may have started soft but have both had staying power.
