Producer Peter Safran has revealed that the one and only Julie Andrews has a voice role in the upcoming DC superhero film “Aquaman” opening December 21st.
Andrews will voice The Karathen, a Kraken-esque sea creature whom even the near-immortal Atlanteans fear and who serves as a guardian. Ultimately she can help Aquaman’s quest to broker a peace between Atlantis and the surface world.
Speaking with EW, Safran says: “We wanted the Karathen to have the voice of a classic British actress, albeit somewhat digitally altered, and when we found out Julie was interested and available and excited to do it, casting her was a no-brainer.”
Amusingly Andrews screen role arrives to days after “Mary Poppins Returns,” a sequel to the classic film she starred in, hits cinemas. Andrews doesn’t appear in ‘Poppins’ with Emily Blunt taking on the role.
“Aquaman” opens in cinemas December 21st.
