The BBC is tackling Susanna Clarke’s dense and epic fantasy novel “Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell” as a seven-part miniseries, one that will likely do a better job at adapting the stuffed narrative for the screen than a film ever could.
Set in early 19th century England, the story deals with the reclusive Mr Norrell (Eddie Marsan) who is enlisted in the government in the war against Napoleon. The series primarily deals with the the relationship and rivalry between Norell and Jonathan Strange, both of whom deal in magic.
Though there’s been a few clips and super short teasers so far, the network has now revealed the official launch trailer for the show which you can see below. The first episode is slated to premiere sometime in May:
