Angelina Jolie is attached to play Gertrude Bell in Ridley Scott’s biopic of the iconic woman says The Hollywood Reporter.
Bell was a well-to-do Oxford University student who became a seminal figure in Middle Eastern politics before and during World War I.
She helped define the borders of Iraq after the fall of the Ottoman Empire, and was rejected by her own government for advocating Arab self-rule.
Scott is still considering whether to direct or not, but his Scott Free Productions is set to produce – no studio is as yet onboard. Jeffrey Caine (“The Constant Gardener”) is writing the screenplay while Giannina Facio will also produce.
Scott is also mulling a Gucci biopic and the Stalinist Russia-set serial killer mystery “Child 44” as his first post-“Prometheus” directing job.
