Angelina Jolie Pitt is set to co-write and direct a film adaptation of Cambodian author and human rights activist Loung Ung’s 2000 memoir “First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers” for Netflix.
The “Unbroken” helmer has reportedly been working on the adaptation for several years since reading it, and will make it her next project. The streaming service will release this original film in late 2016.
“The Missing Picture” helmer Rithy Panh will produce alongside Jolie Pitt and the project will be shot in both Khmer and English. Production aims to begin later this year in Cambodia and as a result has pushed back her illegal wildlife trade film “Africa” which will go forward at a later date.
