“Joker” Sequel Talk & Porn Searches Rise

Joker Sequel Talk Porn Searches Rise

Talk of a potential “Joker” sequel was downplayed in pre-release interviews by director Todd Phillips and actor Joaquin Phoenix, both strongly suggesting it was a ‘one and done’ deal.

However, with the film opening to major box-office and solid (if divisive) critical success over the weekend, the pair are now being less reticent.

Speaking on Popcorn with Peter Travers this week, Phoenix was asked if this was a dream role and the actor seemed happy with the work and keen to re-team with Phillips for more:

“You know, I wouldn’t have thought about this as my dream role. But now, honestly, I can’t stop thinking about it. I talked to Todd a lot about what else we might be able to do, in general, just to work together, but also specifically, if there’s something else we can do with Joker that might be interesting. So, it ended up being a dream role. It’s nothing that I really wanted to do prior to working on this movie.”

That sounds like a hint for a sequel, something unusual for Phoenix who famously declined playing Doctor Strange due to sequel contractual obligations. However, the material in this case is different he says:

“I don’t know that there is [more to do]. Me and Todd would still be shooting now if we could, right? Because it seemed endless, the possibilities of where we can go with the character.”

“Joker” ultimately pulled in $96 million domestically on its opening weekend, beating out numerous high profile and much more costly Marvel and DC Films including Warners’ own “Justice League”.

In amusing related news via TMZ, leading adult entertainment site Pornhub has announced that there has been a massive surge in searches on their site for the word ‘Joker’ with more than 741,000 searches involving the word over the film’s first four days in release.

The site indicates similar search trends happen whenever a comic book movie hits cinemas. While there isn’t a direct “Joker” porn parody at this time, the character has appeared in numerous DC Comics-inspired porn parodies – both straight and gay.
