In the wake of early rave reviews and this weekend’s Venice Film Festival win, Todd Philips’ “Joker” movie has seen its opening weekend tracking forecast rise to the point of it potentially debuting to $100 million.
The figures come from Box-Office Pro who previously had the earliest tracking numbers for the movie suggesting it would debut around the $70-75 million mark.
The new numbers indicate the $55 million budget R-rated film will easily top the $80.3 million opening weekend haul of “Venom” and among the Top 10 opening weekends ever for a movie with an R rating.
It would also have one of the biggest comic book movie openings of the year – above Shazam ($53M) and potentially “Spider-Man: Far from Home” ($92M) though the latter opened mid-week which softened its opening weekend numbers a bit.
“Joker” hits cinemas on October 4th 2019.
