Of all the film stars on the planet, none seems busier than Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. With a large social media presence, the actor is often refreshingly upfront about his busy schedule and what few projects he’s working on next.
That booked out well in advance schedule though is causing a minor headache for one major franchise – the “G.I. Joe” film series. Johnson was the main star of the sequel “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and was hoped to be brought back for a third. However, series star Byung-Hun Lee tells LRM that a new chapter hasn’t progressed with actor scheduling being the primary sticking point:
“I heard from the studio that there’s a possibility to do the third one, but I think they’re waiting for the actors’ schedules. They’re arranging the schedules for the actors, especially Dwayne Johnson.”
‘Retaliation’ opened in 2013 and grossed $375 million worldwide from a $130 million budget. Since then Johnson’s name draw has only increased. Johnson recently wrapped “Fast 8” and “Baywatch,” is currently shooting the “Jumanji” reboot, and is attached to a third “Journey” film, a “San Andreas” sequel, the “Shazam” movie, Shane Black’s “Doc Savage,” the remake of “Big Trouble in Little China,” and the third season of HBO’s “Ballers”.
