Sony Pictures has acquired the film rights to Jay Longino’s upcoming graphic novel “Son of Shaolin” which they will produce with Dwayne Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions label.
The contemporary story is said to be about kung fu, but plot specifics are under wraps. Johnson and Dany Garcia will produce and Johnson is NOT expected to play a role on screen. Longino will adapt the script.
In related news, Universal Pictures is reportedly looking at having Johnson headline their upcoming new take on “The Wolfman” which will be a part of the studio’s budding cinematic Monsterverse.
Aaron Guzikowski (“Prisoners”) is penning the script while Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan will produce. This cinematic universe kicks off with “The Mummy” reboot which opens next June.
