Johnny Depp is in early talks to star in the long-gestating organized crime thriller “Triple Frontier” at Paramount Pictures.
J.C. Chandor (“A Most Violent Year”) is directing the film, taking over from the originally attached Kathryn Bigelow (“Zero Dark Thirty”). Depp initially showed interest in Mark Boal’s script back when Bigelow was involved.
The story is set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil where the Iguazu and Parana rivers converge and a haven for organized crime.
Offers have previously been made to Tom Hanks and Will Smith to join the ensemble, though the latter passed supposedly due to scheduling commitments. Hanks is still said to be in contention though, while Charles Roven and Alex Gartner will produce.
