Beloved filmmaker John Waters has released his annual best films of the year list, the list coming ahead of his sixteen-city spoken-word tour “A John Waters Christmas” which begins December 2nd in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Leading the list is Gaspar Noe’s dancers on LSD title “Climax,” which he dubs “The Red Shoes meets Hallucination Generation”. Coming in second was Bruno Durmont’s “Joan of Arc,” a sequel to last year’s “Jeannette: The Childhood of Joan of Arc” and he’s especially impressed with the child acting: “The ten-year-old star stares nobly and defiantly through the camera lens right into your soul and doesn’t even wait for the church authorities – she burns herself at the stake.”
Also making the list are “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” “Borders,” “Amazing Grace,” “Hail Satan?,” “Pain and Glory,” “The Golden Glove,” “The Souvenir” and “Joker” which he dubs “the first big-budget Hollywood movie to gleefully inspire anarchy”.
