John Travolta is set to play Gummybear (aka. Gummibar), the multi-lingual digital character that has generated 3.6+ billion downloads and become an established global brand, in a $30 million CG animated feature film spin-off.
A phenomenon similar to the ‘Crazy Frog’, the character is known for performing the Gummy bear-related series of songs on various albums with the help of content partners like EMI, Universal, Warner Music and Sony BMG Music Entertainment.
The 3D feature will be produced in Montreal by Oscar Generale (“Casino Jack”), Transfilm’s Jonathan Vanger (“Upside Down”) and the UK Spice Factory’s (“The Merchant of Venice”). Animation houses in Montreal, China and Korea and are in discussions with directors.
George Gallo (“Bad Boys”) penned the script in which Gummy and his friends – a vegetarian vampire bat, a cat and a chameleon -fighting to save an alien planet from destruction. Production is slated to begin on September 29th.
Speaking of Travolta, he’s also slated to re-team with his “Savages” co-star Salma Hayek for Nick Guthe’s drama “Three Dog Life” based on Abigail Thomas’ memoir.
The story follows a New York woman who relocates with her dogs to a small country town to be near her husband, who has been confined to an isolated institution after a serious accident.
