John Madden Remakes “My Fair Lady”

John Madden (“Shakespeare in Love,” “Proof”) is in talks to direct the remake of musical “My Fair Lady” for Sony Pictures says Variety.

Actress Emma Thompson is adapting the script which is expected to be more faithful to George Bernard Shaw’s original play “Pygmalion” than the 50’s Lerner & Loewe musical which served as the basis for the 1964 feature film.

In recent months Keira Knightley and her “Atonement” director Joe Wright were linked to the project, talk that Wright quickly denied saying the film was something he only briefly considered before dismissing.

There is no formal agreement for Knightley to play Eliza, therefore Madden will likely begin a new search for his leading lady sometime after the new year.
