“Lucy” and “The Avengers” actress Scarlett Johansson has agreed to star in the live-action U.S. remake of the popular Japanese anime “Ghost in the Shell” at DreamWorks.
The story follows a member of a covert ops unit of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission that specializes in fighting technology-related crime.
Johansson has been pursued for the role for several months now, with an offer made back in October. Now she’s onboard the movie which Rupert Sanders will direct from a script by Bill Wheeler.
Paramount reportedly has the option to join the project as a co-producer and financier, with the decision expected to be made in coming weeks. Avi Arad and Steven Paul are producing.
