Joe Johnston To Helm Chinese-Shot “Starfall”

Veteran director Joe Johnston (“Captain America: The First Avenger,” “The Rocketeer,” “Jumanji”) has come on board to helm the science-fiction action movie “Starfall” which will shoot in China for Wanda.

The film, which is set on a space station but is otherwise keeping its details under wraps, will be shot at Qingdao Studios in China. Qingdao is a new $8.2 billion production facility unveiled at a gala event on Monday night in Hollywood by Wanda’s Wang Jianlin.

Johnston will direct from a script by David Coggeshall. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, Erik Howsam and Dede Nickerson will produce the $100 million-budgeted project which is being co-financed by Lionsgate, Wanda and Infinity Pictures.
