Joaquin Phoenix is the front-runner to play Henry Sturgess, the mentor who teaches the 16th President how to kill the creatures of the night in “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” for 20th Century Fox reports Deadline.
Phoenix has met on the project and according to their sources “it’s his if he wants it”. The project would mark a return to form for the actor after the failure of his mockumentary “I’m Still Here”.
Broadway actor Benjamin Walker was signed last Thursday to play Lincoln in the Timur Bekmambetov-directed adaptation of the Seth Grahame-Smith novel.
In the book Henry is a mythic, ageless figure who turns Lincoln into an axe-throwing expert slayer of vampires. Tim Burton and Jim Lemley are producing.
