With the U.S. cable networks remaking UK cult hits left and right of late including “Skins,” “Shameless” and “Being Human”, it now appears that there’s a bit of a backwash in that tide as one major U.S. show is about to get its own British incarnation – “Jersey Shore”.
MTV UK is now at work on “Geordie Shore”, a Newcastle-based spin-off “loosely based on the American show” says The Metro. The network is currently scouring the North East of England for potential candidates.
“Jersey Shore is set in the summer and it is always summer in the north-east. No one wears a coat and Geordie girls are always out in their miniskirts” says Kerry Taylor, director of television for MTV UK & Ireland. The show is expected to air on MTV in the UK in late spring or early summer.
Meanwhile the original “Jersey Shore” is set to get a new locale next season – Italy. Snooki, The Situation, Jwoww, DJ Pauly D and the other hard partying Italian-Americans of the hit reality show’s cast are all headed “to the birthplace of the culture they love and live by. We can’t wait to see what erupts as a result” says MTV’s Chris Linn in a statement.
The whole cast will film the upcoming season in Italy this spring with the show to air later this year.
