A year ago came word that Jeremy Renner had an on-set accident which led to him fracturing both his arms. At the time it was thought it was due to his work on the fourth “Avengers” but ultimately he confirmed the injuries were sustained shooting the comedy “Tag”.
This week, appearing on Ellen, his co-star Jon Hamm explained the story and revealed that the Renner you see in the film utilised a bunch of visual effects assistance:
“Jeremy Renner who broke both of his arms at the same time. Day three of production. We had 40 more days to go. Keep in mind this is a man who has done a hundred ‘Avengers’ movies and been fine. And he does a movie about playing tag… both arms, like firewood, just snapped like a matchstick.”
Hamm goes on to add that the injury didn’t halt production as Renner wore greenscreen casts that were painted out in post-production and replaced with CG elements to match the rest of his arms. Ed Helms, Jake Johnson, Isla Fisher, Hannibal Buress, and Rashida Jones co-star in the film which opens June 15th.
