Rising young British actor Jeremy Irvine (“War Horse,” “Life Bites”) is in negotiations to play the lead character in Mike Newell’s adaptation of the classic Dickens novel “Great Expectations” at Number 9 Films reports Variety.
The story follows the orphan Pip, writing about his life and attempting to become a gentleman along the way with the help of an unknown benefactor. Helena Bonham Carter is also in talks to play Miss Havisham.
Rowan Joffe looks to have come onboard to adapt the script, previously David Nicholls (“One Day”) penned a draft which made the 2009 Brit List. Shooting kicks off this fall ahead of a 2012 release.
