Coming off the incredibly brutal and bleak but well-regarded “The Nightingale” and the celebrated horror tale “The Babadook” before that, filmmaker Jennifer Kent is continuing down that line with the thriller “Alice + Freda Forever”.
Amazon Studios will finance and distribute the upcoming work based on the non-fiction book of the same name by author Alexis Coe. Set in 1892 in Memphis, the true story tale will follow two teenage girls who fall deeply in love until jealousy and outside forces turn their romance into an unstable obsession.
Amazon Studios and Kent are reportedly looking at a start date to shoot in Summer 2020. Kent will write while Greg Berlanti, Sidney Kimmel, Sarah Schechter and John Penotti are producing.
