Richard Jenkins, Amy Schumer, Steven Yeun, Beanie Feldstein and Jayne Houdyshell will lead the cast of a film adaptation of Stephen Karam’s four-time Tony-winning play “The Humans” for A24 and IAC.
Karam will adapt and direct the film version of his one-act Thanksgiving-set play in which the Blake family gathers at the run-down Manhattan apartment in Chinatown of musician Brigid Blake and her boyfriend Richard.
Her traditionalist parents, Alzheimer’s-ridden grandmother and her lesbian lawyer sister all arrive for dinner and soon the parents voice their unhappiness that their daughters have left home and have abandoned their religion whilst the family deals with “ageing, illness, and a changing economy”.
“The Humans” was a finalist for the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and won the 2016 Tony Award for Best Play. Scott Rudin and Eli Bush (“Lady Bird,” “Eighth Grade”) are producing.
