“Jawbreaker” Getting Remade As A TV Series

The E! network is looking at developing a scripted TV series ‘reimagining’ of the 1999 black-comedy teen feature “Jawbreaker”.

Rose McGowan, Julie Benz, and Rebecca Gayheart starred in the original as the most popular girls at Reagan High in Beverly Hills who accidentally kill their friend (Charlotte Ayanna) with a jawbreaker candy as part of a practical joke gone wrong.

The new adaptation follows a new clique whose world is rocked by an accidental murder at a bachelorette party. The incident sets in motion an audacious, juicy soap in which the women will go to great lengths to keep their secret hidden.

Judy Greer, Carol Kane, Ethan Erickson and Pam Grier co-starred in the original which made just $3.1 million and was widely panned at the time, but has since attained a cult following.

Darren Stein and George Northy are on board to pen the script and executive produce the remake which Sony Pictures Television will produce in partnership with Universal Cable Productions should it go to series.
