Javier Bardem is in talks to star as Frankenstein’s Monster in the upcoming film that forms a part of a connected monster-themed cinematic universe at Universal Pictures.
That initiative kicks off with the currently filming reboot of “The Mummy” starring Tom Cruise as the man trying to take down an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella) who has awoken and is wreaking havoc in present-day London.
That film also stars Russell Crowe as Dr. Henry Jekyll, a role that Bardem had been approached about playing before passing on the part, at which point Crowe took over.
Sources indicate it’s currently unknown which monster feature Bardem would first appear in, but it’s expected he will show up in another monster’s film before the proposed “Bride of Frankenstein” feature which is currently in development.
Other projects rumored to be in the works include “The Invisible Man” with Johnny Depp, a new take on “The Wolf Man” but this one with Dwayne Johnson rumored, and a possible new “Creature from the Black Lagoon”.
Producers Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan are behind the new films with Kurtzman directing “The Mummy”.
