Jaume Collet-Serra To Helm “Waco” Movie

“The Shallows” and “Orphan” helmer Jaume Collet-Serra has been set to direct Annapurna Pictures’ “Waco” about the 1993 standoff between the FBI and Texas state law enforcement and the David Koresh-led Branch Davidian cult.

Penned by “Zero Dark Thirty” scribe Mark Boal and “Kubo and the Two Strings” writer Marc Haimes, the film chronicles the 51-day standoff which ended with 76 people dead as the cult’s compound was engulfed by a raging fire.

Boal Megan Ellison, Matthew Budman, Hugo Lindgren and Jon Leven will produce with filming aiming to begin later this year.

The project isn’t to be confused with the Spike & Weinstein TV’s currently filming “Waco” event series which stars Taylor Kitsch as David Koresh, Michael Shannon as FBI negotiator Gary Noesner, and the likes of John Leguizamo, Andrea Riseborough, Melissa Benoist, Shea Whigham and Rory Culkin in supporting roles.
