Jason Sudeikis (“We’re The Millers,” “Horrible Bosses”) has scored the iconic role of Irwin M. ‘Fletch’ Fletcher in the upcoming comedy franchise reboot “Fletch Won” at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Chevy Chase played the character in two 1980s comedy features about a wiseass investigative journalist, films based on the Gregory McDonald mystery novels.
Warners picked up the rights in 2011 and had a hard time trying to get the property to work. David List penned a draft that the studio was satisfied with, a draft that attracted Sudeikis who is now in talks.
The new film is described as origin story and a “gritty action comedy with heart”, it’s also said to have a tone much more in line with McDonald’s novels and action/comedies of that era like “Beverly Hills Cop” and “Midnight Run”.
A director is now being sought for the film.
