Jared Leto is set to play famed pop art artist Andy Warhol in “Warhol,” a new biopic in the works which is being dubbed as a “strong mainstream project with prestige credentials”.
Based partly on Victor Bockris’ 1989 novel “Warhol: The Biography,” the film will explore how the hypochondriac and openly gay Warhol stormed the art world in the 1960s with works that elevated American consumerism to artistic heights. He opened the art studio The Factory which attracted swaths of New York society. Ultimately he passed away in 1987.
“Boardwalk Empire” creator and “The Wolf of Wall Street” scribe Terence Winter will pen the screenplay while Leto and Michael De Luca (“The Social Network”) will produce.
