Jared Leto has set the long gestating James Ellroy crime thriller “77” as his directorial debut feature.
Paradox and Wolf Films are behind the project which has been in development for nearly two decades when Ellroy was hired by Paramount Pictures to provide the original screenplay. David Matthews (“Narcos”) has since done a re-write.
Set in politically charged Los Angeles in 1974, the action follows two cops who team up to recover kidnapped heiress Patty Hearst while simultaneously investigating the brutal murder of a fellow officer.
They uncover not only corruption and crime, but a dark and dangerous conspiracy. Dick Wolf and Tony Ganz will produce. No word if Leto will star as well.
