Oscar winner Jared Leto is reportedly circling a key role in David Ayer’s “Suicide Squad”. That role? None other than Batman villain The Joker according to The Wrap.
Their source claims this is the role that Ryan Gosling was initially sought to play in the film, but the actor was unwilling to sign a deal with options for multiple movies.
Leto had previously expressed interest in Marvel’s “Doctor Strange”, a role that looks like it will be going to “Sherlock” star Benedict Cumberbatch. As that opportunity dried up, Leto has apparently gone to Warners who has been keen to work with the actor.
Tom Hardy, Will Smith and Margot Robbie are in various stages of discussions to join “Suicide Squad” in which the government grants a group of DC Comics supervillains a shot at redemption by sending them on a mission that will likely kill them.
Jesse Eisenberg is expected to reprise his role as Superman’s nemesis Lex Luthor in the film, though no casting is confirmed at this time.
The Joker did not appear in Justin Marks’ original draft, but Ayer is expected to perform some heavy revisions shortly – revisions rumored to include The Joker.
