Jared Hess (“Napoleon Dynamite,” “Nacho Libre”) has signed on to helm the freshly retitled “Overnight at 42nd Street”. Oren Uziel (“22 Jump Street”) wrote the screenplay while Neal H. Moritz and Ori Marmur are producing.
The story follows a recently-divorced father and son who win the opportunity to spend the night in a major toy store. While trying to patch up his relationship with his son, the father must also try to defuse a hostage situation that develops at the store.
Hess takes over from Steve Pink (“Hot Tub Time Machine 2”) who became attached to direct in June last year but has since dropped out. Will Ferrell was also attached to star at one point, but he’s also no longer involved.
