Jared Harris (“Fringe,” “The Crown”) is set to star as Soviet scientist Valery Legasov in the five-part HBO and Sky Television miniseries “Chernobyl”.
Legasov was chosen by the Kremlin to investigate the nuclear plant disaster that occurred in Ukraine in April 1986, one of the worst man-made catastrophes in history.
The true story series will explore how and why it happened and follow several “shocking, remarkable stories of the heroes who fought and fell”.
Craig Mazin (“The Huntsman: Winter’s War”) penned and Johan Renck (“Breaking Bad”) directs the project with filming kicking off next spring in Lithuania. Mazin, Caroline Strauss and Jane Featherstone will executive produce.
