New Zealand-born filmmaker Jane Campion (“Top of the Lake,” “Bright Star”) is “on the verge of closing a deal” to direct the film adaptation of Rachel Kushner’s 2013 novel “The Flamethrowers”.
The story follows a young motorcycle-riding visual artist as she negotiates the 1970s New York City art scene. Parts of the story explore the early Futurists art scene in Italy.
Scott Rudin is slated to produce. The news comes as part of a profile piece on Campion whose “The Piano” is about to score a Blu-ray release.
