Jamie Dornan has been chosen to play kinky billionaire Christian Grey in the film adaptation of “Fifty Shades of Grey” at Universal and Focus. Negotiations are now underway for a multi-picture deal.
31-year-old Dornan replaces Charlie Hunnam who backed out of the project nearly two weeks ago, setting off the race to find a replacement in time to keep the film’s November shoot date.
Dornan is a northern Irish actor, musician and model who did memorable campaigns for Calvin Klein, Dior and Armani. He dated Keira Knightley for two years, and is married to Amelia Warner with whom he’s expecting his first child.
Dornan has starred in a few films, most notably Sofia Coppola’s “Marie Antoinette”. He also starred as Sheriff Graham Humbert/The Huntsman on the first season of ABC’s “Once Upon A Time”.
More recently, Dornan had a leading role opposite Gillain Anderson in this year’s Irish serial killer series “The Fall” (which is now on Netflix). Dornan will shoot ‘Shades’ before he returns to work on the second series of “The Fall” early next year.
Dornan had previously been contacted before Hunnam officially dropped out, and tested last Friday opposite female lead. He ultimately beat out the other two finalists Billy Magnussen and Francois Arnaud.
It has also been revealed that both Juno Temple and Frank Grillo were approached for supporting roles in the film, both turned them down.
