Earlier this week came the news that the follow-up to New Line’s “The Conjuring” had been pushed back from a proposed October 2015 to an unspecified 2016 release date. Now we know why.
James Wan, who directed the 2013 film, has closed a first-look producing deal with New Line which also includes a commitment to direct “The Conjuring” sequel.
Wan is still busy and work on the seventh “Fast and the Furious” film and will shoot “The Conjuring 2” next summer once he wraps press commitments for Universal’s car-fuelled franchise entry which opens April 3rd.
Universal has an option on Wan to return for an eighth ‘Fast’ film and have yet to make a decision regarding whether he will return. They have allowed him to direct “The Conjuring 2” as his next film though.
