James Wan Teases His New Original Horror Film

Having launched the “Saw,” “Insidious” and “The Conjuring” franchises, all for fairly economical budgets, James Wan is going back to his indie horror roots with his next feature which has been set up at New Line.

Following the untitled project’s announcement last week, Wan has taken to social media this week to offer some photos from location scouting for the film which he and Ingrid Bisu are co-writing. Plot specifics, however, are under wraps.

In his posting he confirms he’s returning to an older way of filmmaking with a thriller that’s going to push its R-rating:

“There’s been a bit of speculation as to what my next project is… all I’ll say is, I’m super excited to go back to my indie roots with this hard-R thriller. An original horror idea (not a reboot/remake or anything based on existing IP) with old school, practical effects and no giant, blue screen sets. That’s all I’ll say for now.”

Wan will also produce the film through his Atomic Monster banner alongside Michael Clear and the aim is to shoot it this Fall in Los Angeles before jumping over into pre-production on the “Aquaman” sequel.
