In a surprising but welcome choice, Universal Pictures has begun negotiations with “Saw” and “Insidious” director James Wan to helm the seventh installment of the studio’s “The Fast And The Furious” franchise.
Wan would replace the departing Justin Lin who previously revealed he wasn’t going to direct the next film after helming the last four installments. Wan has already received an endorsement for the gig from Lin.
While a few other names have come up in the past week including Baltazar Kormakur (“Contraband”), Jeff Wadlow (“Kick Ass 2”) and Harold Zwart (“The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones”), Wan has now reportedly become the choice with a deal expected to be closed within the next few days.
Neal H. Moritz will produce and Chris Morgan will pen the script. Both Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are confirmed returnees, Dwayne Johnson and Tyrese’s involvement is uncertain at this point.
