James Mangold (“Walk the Line,” “The Wolverine”) is in early talks to direct a biopic about legendary football quarterback Joe Namath for Fox 2000.
Namath is one of the most revered and colorful figures in New York sports history. Spending most of his career with the New York Jets in the 1960s and 1970s, Namath was also a notorious party boy and womanizer.
Upon retirement from the game he appeared on numerous shows and in films, and became commentator for ABC’s Monday Night Football.
Michael Brandt and Derek Haas (“3:10 to Yuma”) are tipped to be writing the script. Andrew Lazar and Cathy Konrad will produce.
