James Mangold To Adapt “Crenshaw”

20th Century Fox is developing a live-action adaptation of Newbery-winning author Katherine Applegate’s classic children’s book “Crenshaw”.

“Logan” helmer James Mangold is attached to direct the feature adaption which follows Jackson, a young boy whose family has fallen on hard times. At that point his imaginary friend, a giant cat named Crenshaw, comes back in to Jackson’s life to offer some help.

Frederick Seton penned the first draft and Kickstart Productions will produce. It’s not clear when Mangold will helm the project though as he has several films on his to do list.

Applegate’s other children’s book, the award-winning “The One and Only Ivan,” is being adapted into a Disney animated feature with Angelina Jolie voicing.
