James Gunn Explains That “Guardians” Art

Filmmaker James Gunn has revealed that Star-Lord and his crew of alien misfits will take on an Abilisk in the upcoming Marvel Studios film “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”.

During a Facebook Q&A, Gunn explained the circumstances behind the concept art released earlier this week in which our heroes are fighting a massive tentacles creature: “That’s an Abilisk, a multi-dimensional being, and the Guardians have been hired to fight him.”

That won’t be the big action sequence of the film though: “I have a huge battle scene in ‘Guardians 2,’ which actually started in storyboards before it was a screenplay. I drew it all out first, because I saw it visually in my head.”

Gunn also weighed in on Baby Groot whom he suggests won’t turn into a fully formed Groot in this entry: “Obviously, Baby Groot is much different than Groot in the comics. He’s not just grown Groot; he’s, y’know, different. Don’t expect Baby Groot to do too much changing in the second movie,” he added.
