James Franco has optioned the film rights to Stephen Elliott’s gritty memoir “The Adderall Diaries” for his Rabbit Bandini production company reports Variety.
The story follows Elliott who becomes consumed by the 2007 murder trial of programmer Hans Reiser. Sean Sturgeon, Hans’s former best friend and an acquaintance of Elliott in San Francisco’s BDSM scene, confesses to eight unrelated murders during the case.
Things then look into Elliott’s troubled childhood and tormented young adulthood, his substance abuse problems and addiction to masochistic sex, and so forth.
Franco will produce, adapt and direct the property, and could potentially star in the film.
