James Cameron himself has announced plans for Dark Horse Comics to team with 20th Century Fox and his own Lightstorm Entertainment for a line of “Avatar”-themed comics.
In a video tease making the announcement at New York Comic Con this morning, he says the comics will deal with “new storylines from the past, present and the future world” of the sci-fi franchise.
Dark Horse president Mike Richardson said in a statement: “James Cameron is one of the film industry’s greatest talents. His films, always on the cutting edge technologically, feature rich characters and amazing worlds, a fact reflected in Avatar’s status as the all time box-office champion. We couldn’t be more excited about working with James and his team at Lightstorm to expand the breathtaking world of Pandora.”
Cameron is currently working on three sequels to his 2009 sci-fi epic which remains the biggest box-office champion both domestically and internationally by a long margin. The first of these sequels is currently targeting a late 2017 release.
