One of the unexpected announcements of last week was that of a “Static Shock” digital series to be produced by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Now, Flickering Myth reports that “The Karate Kid” and “After Earth” star Jaden Smith is reportedly being eyed to play the title role of the electrically-charged DC comics hero in the live-action digital series.
Reginald Hudlin (“Django Unchained”) is producing this story of an African-American teenager named Virgil Ovid Hawkins who can manipulate and create electricity.
This adaptation is part of Warners’ recently announced Blue Ribbon Content initiative which also includes a reboot of the classic horror-comedy franchise “Critters”.
This marks the third member of the Smith family to be linked to a DC project. Jaden’s mother Jada-Pinkett Smith currently stars in FOX’s “Gotham” while father Will Smith has been rumored for David Ayer’s film adaptation of the “Suicide Squad” comics.
