Jackman Back For Singer’s “X-Men”

Bryan Singer is getting the band back together.

Earlier this week came word that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen were set to reprise their roles as Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto in the upcoming “X-Men: Days of Future Past”. Now, sources confirm that Hugh Jackman is in negotiations to also return as Wolverine in the movie.

This sequel to “X-Men: First Class” will still primarily focus on the younger incarnations of the characters, played by the likes of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence. The various actors from the original X-Men trilogy will have key roles in the action however.

The 1981 two-part standalone storyline from the “Uncanny X-Men” comic on which this film scores its title is partially set in an alternate future. In it, surviving mutants have been penned in concentration camps, giant Sentinels patrol America, and most of the X-Men have been hunted and killed.

In the present day, the younger X-Men are forced to stop a key event from unfolding in order to keep that future from occurring.

Matthew Vaughn’s ‘First Class’ and Singer’s “X2” are critically considered the best two films of the series thus far, but fans of the comics are still arguing over the status of ‘First Class’ as either a prequel or a reboot as it has elements of both.

Jackman popped up in an amusing cameo in ‘First Class,’ he is expected to take on a more substantial role this time out. Jackman just wrapped playing the role again in James Mangold’s “The Wolverine.”
