It’s garnering plenty of awards attention, but the Jennifer Lopez-led strippers revenge film “Hustlers” has been banned in Malaysia due to “excessive obscene content”.
Local distributors Square Box Pictures confirmed the ban on social media, indicating the country’s censorship board says the film’s scenes of naked breasts, erotic dances and scenes featuring drugs made it “not suitable for public screening”.
Constance Wu, Julia Stiles, Lizzo and Cardi B also star in the film based on a true story and was inspired by a New York Magazine article that went viral in 2015. The film is currently sitting at the top of both the US and UK box office charts.
Earlier this year gay sex scenes in “Rocketman” were censored in Malaysia ahead of the film’s release there.
