Scholastic has today announced that it will publish the J.K. Rowling-penned screenplay for David Yates’ “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”.
The printed version of the screenplay will be released in the United States and Canada on November 19th 2016, the day after the film itself hits cinemas. Rowling, the beloved author of the “Harry Potter” books, makes her screenwriting debut on the film which is a prequel spin-off of the ‘Potter’ franchise.
The film opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) has arrived in New York after just completing a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary collection of magical creatures. An American muggle, a misplaced magical briefcase, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts soon means trouble for everyone.
The published screenplay will be a hardcover, while an ebook edition will be simultaneously published by Pottermore. The original “Harry Potter” books have sold over 450 million copies worldwide.
This comes on top of the publication of a ‘Special Rehearsal Edition’ version of the script for the upcoming stage play “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two” which hits London’s West End on July 30th. That version of the script will only be available for a limited time, to be replaced by the Definitive Edition Script at a later date.
