J.C. Chandor (“Margin Call,” “All is Lost”) is in talks to direct “Deepwater Horizon” for Summit Entertainment and Participant Media.
The story deals with the 2010 explosion of the oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico that caused a massive offshore oil spill which became the second largest environmental disaster in U.S. history. A NY Times article about the incident was optioned by the companies two years ago.
Matthew Michael Carnahan wrote the most recent draft, while Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing. Filming aims to begin this winter.
