There’s a casting fight going on at Disney Pictures over “Oz: The Great and Powerful”, the Sam Raimi-directed prequel spin on “The Wizard of Oz” says Vulture.
Raimi reportedly wants Hilary Swank to play the Wicked Witch of the East, while the studio wants Michelle Williams for the role and neither side is reportedly keen on the other’s choice.
James Franco is locked in to star as the Wizard while Mila Kunis is set to play the Wicked Witch of the West. John C. Reilly was in talks for a sidekick role but now looks to be headed for “The Hunger Games” instead.
Raimi had a similar dispute with Sony Pictures over the casting of Peter Parker – Raimi wanted Tobey Maguire, Sony wanted Wes Bentley. In that instance, Raimi won.
What will happen in this case is hard to say.
